Newy’s Origin: From Ketamine Therapy to Brain Health Supplement
When people ask how Newy began, I tell them it started with a belief — that mental health support shouldn’t be limited to medication or costly therapy sessions.
I knew there had to be natural, safe, and evidence-based options that could work as well.
In truth, I was on a personal quest — to help my patients find relief and to ease my own struggles along the way.
From Clinic to Concept: A New Approach to Mental Health Support
Before founding Newy, I operated a mental health clinic in California called Innerbloom Ketamine Therapy. We provide IV and nasal ketamine treatments for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain.
As a physician and someone who personally benefits from ketamine therapy for my depression and anxiety, I have seen firsthand how truly life-changing these treatments can be.
But I’ve also seen the limitations. For some, the incredible antidepressant and anxiolytic effects of ketamine can fade in just a few weeks. For many patients, the hope isn’t just to feel better for now—it’s for lasting relief and a healthier brain for years to come.
It Started with Agmatine Sulfate
One day, a patient came into my clinic for a ketamine treatment and mentioned a natural supplement he recently discovered through his own online research.
He was seeking a way to improve his response to ketamine therapy—and was intrigued by the science behind a compound known as agmatine sulfate.
He asked if I had heard about agmatine, and at that time, I hadn’t. He explained that agmatine has a mechanism of action, somewhat similar to ketamine, with reported antidepressant effects. Interestingly, he read that agmatine could potentially enhance the benefits of ketamine therapy. He sought my advice as a physician on whether to take agmatine as a supplement during his ketamine treatment.
That one conversation changed everything for me.
Deep Dive: Agmatine Sulfate for Depression & Ketamine Support
I dove into the research, and what I found surprised me. There is a substantial body of research examining how agmatine affects depression, neuroplasticity, and mental health.
Additionally, many online reports describe individuals experiencing positive effects from agmatine sulfate. Reddit threads like "Agmatine Sulfate has COMPLETELY changed me" and "Agmatine Sulfate - This substance has cured my depression" are among the discussions that caught my eye. Although not yet mainstream, its potential was impossible to overlook.
As a ketamine specialist, I saw the opportunity:
Could agmatine supplements help prolong and enhance ketamine therapy?
Could it also support brain health on its own, for people not using ketamine?
The answer, I believed, was yes.
Building the Formula Behind Newy
But I didn’t stop with one ingredient.
I began mapping out what I personally needed — what I wished existed not only for myself, but for patients like mine.
While I don’t endorse at-home oral ketamine use due to safety concerns — highlighted tragically by the recent death of 27-year-old Phillip Ward — I recognize that many people will continue choosing this option over medically supervised care. Oral ketamine is metabolized through the liver, a process that can strain the body and, in rare cases, lead to toxicity.
That’s where I saw an opportunity: to create a blend that supports both mind and body — protecting vital organs through targeted antioxidants and detoxifying nutrients.
In many ways, I was trying to scratch my own itch.
If I already rely on certain supplements to support my mental health,
why not create something I’d actually want to take myself?
Following extensive research and planning, I developed a formula centered on four main ingredients designed to support:
- Mood regulation
- Cognitive clarity
- Detoxification & oxidative stress
- Long-term brain health
These were evidence-backed, high-quality ingredients that I already trusted enough to take daily myself.
Together with my wife and business partner, Libby, we assembled a small, passionate team to bring the product to life. We called it: Newy — Brain Health & Mood Regulation.
From Clinic Trials to a Bigger Mission
Before launching to the public, we offered Newy’s formula to patients at Innerbloom—people already navigating depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
The feedback was immediate and encouraging:
Patients are experiencing longer-lasting improvements between ketamine sessions. They report increased focus, mental clarity, calmness, and a generally better mood.
Seeing these results firsthand, we knew we were onto something bigger.
